Organised Labour declares indefinite strike action over inclusion of pension funds in debt exchange programme.
The strike action is scheduled to start from December 27th, 2022.
According to organized labour, the strike will be in force until the government listens to the by exempting pension funds from the planned debt exchange programme.
The Secretary General of TUC, Dr Yaw Baah, announced the industrial action at a press conference in Accra on Monday indicating the reason for the action.
Labour unions present at the press conference included the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the Ghana Medical Association, the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana and the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU).
It could be recalled that, Organized labour drew the attention of the government to the effects the inclusion of pension fund will bring and caution the government never to include the fund in the debt exchange program but it seems their quest was not heeded to by the government.
If this is not resolve, this will be one of the longest strike ever and it's impacts will be so great considering the stakeholders involved in this strike action.
