E-learning or electronic learning is the delivery of
learning and training through digital resources that makes it easy for users to
learn any time, with few if any restrictions. Below are some activities we can
include to promote eLearning course to address the auditory, visual,
kinesthetic, and generational learning styles
VISUAL
They have preference for scenes or observed things,
including pictures, videos, diagrams, demonstrations, displays, hand-outs
films, flip charts etcs.
Because visual learners tend to be holistic learners
who process information best when it is presented to them as a robust whole
rather than piecemeal, they tend to see positive educational outcomes when they
are presented with summarizing charts and diagrams rather than sequential
slides of information
·
The use of maps,
flow-charts or webs to organize materials
KINESTHETIC LEARNERS
Kinesthetic learners are hands-on, participatory learners who need to take
a physically active role in the learning process in order to achieve their best
educational outcomes.
·
Role playing: is a
discussion technique that makes it possible to get maximum participation of a
group through acting out an example of a problem or idea under discussion. So,
role playing videos should be included in e-learning platforms for kinesthetic
learners since, they learn by “doing, feeling, touching”.
·
Drill and
practice. : the act of rehearsing a
behaviour over and over or engaging in an activity repeated, for the purpose of
improving or mastering
·
Group games.
·
Gap fills.
·
Videos.
AUDITORY
Auditory (or aural) learners
·
Sound and music
are a strong suit for these types of learners who typically have a good sense
of rhythm
·
Online lectures and
speeches.
GENERATIONAL LEARNING STYLE
This is a learning style that uses tools that technology has provided to create a more comprehensive learning system which aims to better educate current and future students electronically. Examples are: laptops, mobile phones.
Technology cannot address biological and physiological needs.
Safety needs:
Technology has opened new opportunities for everyone
especially, learners but this is without risk. Learners especially children,
should be equipped with knowledge on the risk of the use of the internet as
they take various e-learning courses. Safety in the age of the internet
revolves around online safety, digital citizenship and privacy, and
cyberbullying prevention. Strategies and lessons related to these topics should
not be overlooked. They should be continually taught and reinforced for
students of all ages.
Social needs,
belongingness and love – work group, family, affection, relationship:
esteem needs: One significant of the internet to this
current generation is their ability to connect with each other through media
platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, zoom. This has greatly reduced the way
people meet physically at a place to either have a meeting or have fun, since
some of these things can be done virtually. Educators can tap into this great
advantage and become more strategic in assisting their learners in becoming
connected learners. Providing learners with the time, resources, permissions
and taste for developing their own personal learning networks greatly increases
their opportunity to gain a sense of belonginess.
Esteem needs:
Achievement, mastery, independence, status, dominance,
prestige, managerial, responsibility. People needed to sense that they are
valued and by others and feel that they are making a contribution o the world.
Participation in professional activities, academic accomplishments, athletic or
team participation and personal hobbies can all play a role in fulfilling the
esteem -needs.
Self – Actualization needs:
Realizing personal potentials, self – fulfilment,
seeking personal growth and peak experiences. Educators should become more
intentional in their educational strategy, educator can use their social
networking skills and the desire of young people to create an atmosphere of
meaningful, engaged and authentic learning through social activism. This
in-turn helps set the stage for learners to gain feelings of self –
actualization.
