UEW- FIX ACCOMMODATION ISSUES IN WINNEBA

 

The amount demanded from UEW students in Winneba concerning accommodation is outrageous and cruel. As students, did we come to Winneba for the purpose of education or accommodation?.Why am I posing this question? Comparing our fees we pay yearly to the amount we pay for  accommodation yearly,  clearly it shows that accommodation fees are really killing UEW students on Winneba Campus. The least amount for renting two in a room is 1500 cedis and even that one, it very difficult to get and when you get, it comes with harsh condition and poor treatment. 

Is it a crime that we chose to be students of UEW? Now it looks like we don't have anyone to come to our rescue. Landlords and landladies are charging exorbitant prices and we seem to have no one coming to our aid. UEW students are helpless even though  we have SRC, AMES, NUGs, BESA, SESA, etc. You name the rest, they are numerous and cannot be enumerated. All these Associations are established to speak for students yet all the leaders have kept mute. I don't even know the essence for establishing these Associations. Students are suffering and going through a lot with regards to accommodation issues.

We are in the elections season and you happen to see our seniors contesting various portfolios. Their flyers and stickers are all over and everywhere especially on our WhatsApp pages consuming the little data bundle we have managed to purchased. I am of the believe that we can use this opportunity to this agenda heard by all for an immediate action be instituted. Some of them are witnesses of what I am saying but they can't talk. 

The leadership of UEW SRC is not doing us good in this regard. My brothers and sisters let's wake up, come together and begin to ask the SRC and other Students Associations pressing questions. If we don't sit up and keep mute, accommodation fees in Winneba would escalate to the point which could be unbearable.

I think the SRC and other Students Associations can come together to put this issue before the Management of UEW for a taskforce to be established to regulate the prices of Accommodation in Winneba township.

If you and I put our various leaders on their toes by demanding explanation and answers to pressing questions this challenge that students are going through would be a thing of the past.

I think when we all team up to do this, in the near future, we may have this accommodation issues addressed once and for all.
