On 14th June 2020, the District Chief Executive of the Birim North District within the Eastern region made it known to the general public in an interview on Ananse Radio, a radio station base at Akyem Afosu within same District that the number of cases in the Birim North has increased by 8 totaling the case count within the District to fourteen.
In the interview, he made it known that a pastor of Jericho chapel at Akyem Ntronang Zongo within the District has also tested positive for COVID-19. According to him, the pastor refused to observe the protocols after it was made known to him that he has tested positive to COVID-19.
He added that, the pastor who was to go into isolation whiles he receive medical care refused and was seen on Sunday, 14th June, 2020 having church service with church members. The pastor was seen having church service during their routine check on various churches to ensure adherence to the various protocols.
He said one person within the District has died as a result of COVID-19. According to the DCE, the said pastor had contact with the person who has died out of COVID-19
He additionally added that, one person tested positive from 13 samples from an infected person's contact tracing.
Meanwhile, the 91 year old man who tested positive and was taken to Legon for medical care has fully recovered.
He admonished the people within the district to stop trooping to church especially those who attend "Pray for me" kind of church.
Again, he advised people within the Birim North District to observed all the protocols and erase the myth from their mind that the disease is not real so as to contain the virus.
Moreover, he said the assembly is going to collaborate with the Ghana Police service to ensure strict adherence to all protocols.
