Ghana Secures Emergency Fuel to Prevent Looming Dumsor Amid Pipeline Maintenance

The Government of Ghana, under the leadership of President John Mahama, has secured emergency fuel supplies from Nigeria and other sources to avert the anticipated power outages (popularly known as "Dumsor") caused by the planned maintenance of the West African Gas Pipeline.

This critical update was disclosed by Mr. John Jinapor, who emphasized the government's swift action in addressing the issue. Earlier concerns were raised about inadequate liquid fuel reserves to sustain power generation during the maintenance period, a challenge attributed to the previous administration's failure to procure sufficient fuel stock.

In response, stakeholders in the energy sector convened on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, to devise strategies to mitigate the potential crisis. The emergency fuel procurement is expected to stabilize the country’s energy supply and maintain uninterrupted power for businesses and households during the pipeline’s downtime.

This proactive approach demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring energy security while addressing the challenges posed by the maintenance work. Further updates are anticipated as the situation unfolds.
