Colleges of Education Reopening Postponed Amid Ongoing CETAG Strike

The reopening of Colleges of Education across Ghana has been postponed due to the ongoing strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers’ Association of Ghana (CETAG). Initially scheduled for January 13, 2025, the reopening has now been rescheduled to January 27, 2025.

This decision comes as CETAG continues its industrial action, which began in 2024 over unresolved demands related to conditions of service and other grievances. The previous strike lasted nearly three months before being suspended following legal interventions and extensive consultations with stakeholders.

Despite the temporary suspension of the strike last year, efforts to address the concerns of CETAG members appear to have stalled, prompting the association to resume its action. The ongoing strike has disrupted academic activities, leaving students and stakeholders uncertain about the resumption of normal operations.

Authorities are yet to provide updates on negotiations or measures to resolve the impasse. Students and parents are hopeful that an amicable solution will be reached before the new reopening date.
