Just In: UTAG declares strike effective from October 13

Information reaching winofa.online is that the University Teachers Association of Ghana, UTAG  and other university teacher unions  have declared their intentions to embark on industrial strike action with effect on October 13th 2022 if government refuses to resolve the issue or the complaints of the members.

Four labour unions made this known in a joint release on 5th October, 2022 to embark on what is been described as a never-before-seen strike beginning from the earlier stated date.

“This gives the employer and all stakeholders of tertiary education in Ghana one crucial week to reverse the directive that seeks to negatively compromise the conditions of service of university workers,” they made it known in a joint statement on Wednesday, October 5th 2022.

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU) and the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) want the government to settle their outstanding online teaching support allowance (OTSA) and non-payroll allowances.

Amongst other demands, the unions also want government to pay their Book and Research Allowance for 2022 and implement the agreement reached in March on the implementation of the market premium or review the Single Spine Salary Structure in 2023.

If government does not fulfill their demands, it may disrupt the academic calendar though some of the Universities such as Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST has completed their academic calendar for 2021/2022.
